Triathlon and Endurance Coach
I’m a full-time endurance coach, author and business owner. I raced as a Professional Ironman athlete 2009-2011 and prior to racing long distance triathlon had won two ETU and two ITU triathlon age group titles for Great Britain. During my racing career I finished top ten in all of of my Ironman distance events, including setting a new age group course record on debut at IM France. I was sponsored by Planet-X after winning the world age group championships in the same year as Chrissie Wellington and finished top ten in age group at Kona 2007 and understand the requirements of triathletes with busy lifestyles and careers, who are looking to find their potential and how to achieve peak performance or goals.
My coaching program for the Swim Smooth squads I run in South West London /Surrey are attended by a range of athletes and I also offer individually coached swim Video Analysis and Stroke Correction courses, as one of the few specialist and Certified Swim Smooth Certified coaches in Europe. In conjunction with physiotherapist Neil MacClean Martin, we developed the first online triathlon specific program for triathletes called TriFit. TriFit is available online as a subscription service for triathletes and multi-sport athletes recovering from injuries or requiring a progressive coached strength and core conditioning program providing short video sessions, on-demand.
My coaching services suit triathletes of all abilities from Sprint and Olympic distance through to Ironman. I draw upon personal experiences of two decades as a competitive triathletes, including working with world class coaches Steve Trew (Sydney 2000 Olympic games Triathlon coach) and Spencer Smith (multiple World Champion). My athletes range from first time and competitive age group athletes to sub-10 hour Ironman finishers. I hold an MSc and a degree in Education in addition to triathlon coaching qualifications.
I returned to triathlon in 2016 from serious life changing injuries after a training ride incident in 2012. My comeback after 3 years in recovery, culminated with age group wins at Challenge Salou, Ironman Maastricht, Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney and a podium finish (3rd) at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2016. A large part of my work revolves around inspiring and motivating athletes finding it challenging to return from setbacks and help them to find opportunities within the scope of adversity to return stronger or better than before, developing resilience. I provide motivational talks on this topic to industry and corporate groups.
My first book, ‘Back on Track’ was published by Meyer & Meyer in October 2015. Back On Track provides a guide for endurance athletes managing their recovery from serious and/ or multiple injuries applying a multi-sport approach to make a successful and full recovery. My complete return to sport recovery program is contained in Chapter 10, and there is an abundance of motivational advice and practical examples to ensure an athlete can become their own ‘expert’, self manage and navigate their recovery successfully.
After publishing my recovery program and whilst personally preparing return to world class competition with a stronger version 2.0, I worked with a range of media to provide radio, magazine and newspaper interviews as well as filming content for television programs such as ‘How to Win at Everything’ on Discovery Channel UK.
